October has been a busy month in the We Are Travel offices. Not only have we been working with our suppliers to bring you new and exciting products, discounts and destinations … we have also managed to leave the office and make some new friends!
ASSOCIATION OF TOURING AND ADVENTURE SUPPLIERS (ATAS)
As members of ATAS we were excited to attend this years annual conference in Birmingham on the 22nd October. We met with all of our approved suppliers and talked with potential new partners to help us to expand our product base for our clients. We didn’t win an award this year, but we helped our travel friends celebrate in style. There were some sore heads on the 23rd October!
At the beginning the month we were excited to announce that our company has offset all company travel for the last 12 months. We are aiming to go even better this year and become completely carbon neutral in the office … watch this space for more news on that!
NEW TRAVEL GUIDES
Throughout the month we have been launching a ‘new style’ travel guide on our website. We have launched our Italy page and are busy testing this before rolling this style out to other destinations. Feel free to take a look and let us know what you think.
We became official ‘Vancouver Specialists’ last week, after completing a series of training modules to learn more about this exciting destination. It is definitely a favourite of ours given its commitment to sustainability and environmental approach. This is just one step towards becoming accredited specialist for the whole of Canada! We’ll have a party for that one … everyones invited!
NEW REGULATIONS FOR TAKING MEDICATIONS TO UAE
In case you missed our post on social media, new rules for transporting medicines were introduced for the UAE in October. Whilst the full details and restrictions are still being ironed out, we will keep a close eye on the situation. For the latest guidance please access the Foreign and Commonwealth Office official page.
GRENADA TO PHASE OUT SINGLE-USE PLASTICS!
The government are rolling out their Non-Biodegradable Waste Control Act, seeking to eliminate all single-use plastics and styrofoam by February 2019. Lots of hotels, eateries and tourist attractions have already made the switch to biodegradable products, with others advancing plans to transition by the end of the year. Grenada is an excellent destination for adventure and activity holidays so we are really pleased that they are taking steps towards greater environmental sustainability. Go Grenada!
LONELY PLANET -BEST IN TRAVEL 2019
Yay, Lonely Planet have released their travel predictions for 2019. Something that we look forward to every year … sad but true! Take a look at the key highlights of Best in Travel choices in our latest blog.
THE RETURN OF JORDAN
This enigmatic destination is experiencing an increase in demand this year, after a few slow years which had seen tourism drop from the UK market by a considerable margin. Operators are reporting up to a 200% increase in bookings within the last 12 months – great news for Jordan and its local communities! Fancy a trip to Jordan yourself?
Our partners at G adventures have introduced a brand new style of travel based around ‘wellness’. Their trips are based around 3 main themes (mindfulness, movement and nourishment). Watch this space for more details on these trips over the next few weeks. Activities include fantastic experiences such as an ashram stay in India or attending a prayer ceremony with monks in Nepal too.
